IDW launches Godzilla comic

From IDW:

The biggest star in motion pictures prepares to wreak havoc once again! IDW Publishing is thrilled to announce a partnership with Toho Co., Ltd. to create all-new GODZILLA comics. Starting in 2011, Godzilla will smash his way back onto the scene with a cast of characters from his films never before seen in comics.

"This new series will be monsters and mayhem, but most importantly, it's going to be a lot of fun," said Yukio Kotaki of Toho. "Godzilla has been gone from comics for too long and we feel that IDW is the perfect company to welcome him back in 2011."

In addition to the King of the Monsters himself, the new comics from IDW Publishing and Toho Co., Ltd. will feature many of Godzilla's friends and foes, including MOTHRATM, KING GHIDORAHTM, RODANTM and more that have never before been featured in an American comic book series alongside Godzilla. With an impressive cast of monsters both old and new, IDW's series will treat fans to both familiar themes and original takes on the pop culture legends that have stomped, smashed, and fought their way across movie screens for over five decades.

"Not only is Godzilla known worldwide, he's loved worldwide, too. Having a film career with more than 25 movies and going on a 56-year span pretty much solidifies you as a legend, and IDW is really looking forward to contributing to that legacy," said Chris Ryall, Chief Creative Officer and Editor-in Chief for IDW Publishing. "We wanted Godzilla to return to comics, but this time we wanted him to have some company. I think fans will be pleased with the monster guest appearances, which will really offer something for every fan of these films. There are the classic characters, but there are also a few surprises, too."

Debuting in February 2011, fans can expect to see a number of unique storylines from some of the industry's top creators.

Rarities From The Apocalypse

With Gamma World on everyone's mind I've been thinking a lot about PA (Post Apocalyptic) films. While I can't think of any that capture the frenetic and unpredictable nature of Gamma World there are many that capture the desperation and strangeness of the post-apocalyptic world.

After the jump you'll find the entirety of Chris Marker's sublime "cine-roman" experimental film La jetée which was the inspiration for Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys.

Also, you'll find the trailer from Luc Besson's first film, a largely dialogue-less PA film called Le dernier combat.

Maybe you can draw some inspiration from these for your own PA gaming experience. Whatever the case, they're worth seeing. (Mike)

Hulk Heading for the Small Screen?

According to the Hollywood Reporter Hulk and Cloak & Dagger (!) are being developed as TV series. Looks like the comic adaptation frenzy is infecting TV too. Check out the Hollywood Reporter for a list of all the properties being developed.
Hulk is one of two projects that are priorities at Marvel Television, Marvel Studio’s TV division, which has been operating under the radar since Jeph Loeb took the reins at the end of June. The second hot property is Cloak and Dagger, which is being developed as a possible show for ABC Family.
Both are in the early stages of development; Hulk has a “showrunner wanted” placard around its neck, meanwhile, Loeb is meeting with writers to hear ideas for Cloak and Dagger.

More LOEG Next Year

CHAPTER TWO takes place almost sixty years later in the psychedelic daze of Swinging London during 1968, a place where Tadukic Acid Diethylamide 26 is the drug of choice, and where different underworlds are starting to overlap dangerously to an accompaniment of sit-ins and sitars. The vicious gangster bosses of London’s East End find themselves brought into contact with a counter-culture underground of mystical and medicated flower-children, or amoral pop-stars on the edge of psychological disintegration and developing a taste for Satanism. Alerted to a threat concerning the same magic order that she and her colleagues were investigating during 1910, a thoroughly modern Mina Murray and her dwindling league of comrades attempt to navigate the perilous rapids of London’s hippy and criminal subculture, as well as the twilight world of its occultists. Starting to buckle from the pressures of the twentieth century and the weight of their own endless lives, Mina and her companions must nevertheless prevent the making of a Moonchild that might well turn out to be the antichrist.

Gaming Order in Today!

Along with all the new comics we got a gaming order in!

We've got a restock on Dominion, along with the Intrigue and Alchemy expansions.

You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams! You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion!  In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner.

But wait! It must be something in the air; several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn’t be proud, but your grandparents, would be delighted.

We also received a restock on Magic the Gathering boosters, including Scars of Mirrodin, 2011, Eldrazi, Zendikar, and Shards of Alara.

We've restocked Yu-Gi-Oh-sized card sleeves, and some regular-sized card sleeves. And have a bunch of Heroclix back in including Web of Spider-Man, Secret Invasion, Avengers, Justice Leauge, Arkham Asylum and Brave and the Bold.

We've also got more Gamma World Boxed Sets, so if you haven't picked yours up yet....

Bruce Wayne - The Road Home: Red Robin (One-Shot): Master detective Tim Drake takes center stage in this one-shot as the one person who continued to have faith that Bruce Wayne was alive.
