Cannon Films are burned into my nucleotides

Cobra, Missing in Action, Masters of the Universe, Superman IV, and so on. The 80's were weird and so were the movies made during that decade.

Electric Boogaloo is a documentary about the strange cinematic artifact that was Cannon Films.

Guardians of the Galaxy casting news!

[Reposted from IC v2]

We're really excited for this movie!

Check out the movies imdb page here.
Marvel Studios is likely to reveal the entire cast of Guardians of Galaxy in a big Hall H extravaganza next week, but the movie identities of a trio of Guardians characters has reportedly been leaked to a Website in England where director James Gunn is currently filming the Marvel-based space opera that is slated to debut in theaters in a little more than a year on August 1, 2014.

According to Den of Geek, Benicio del Toro, who has signed a multi-film deal with Marvel Studios will indeed play The Collector, one of the oldest and most potent characters in the Marvel Universe.

Lee Pace will take on the role of the Kree warrior Ronan the Accuser, who began his stint in the Marvel U as a villain, but has also demonstrated an heroic side to his character.  Doctor Who alumnus Karen Gillan will, according to Den of Geek, will portray the nasty space pirate Nebula.

Batman & Bane Empire Covers

[reposted from ICv2]
New images of Bane and Batman as they appear in The Dark Knight Rises have been revealed as covers of the upcoming issue of Empire magazine.  Images from the set have been appearing over recent months (see, for example, “Catwoman Costume Revealed,” with more photo links in that article), but this is the first close-up look at Bane, and a close look at a portion of Batman.  The film will be released on July 20, 2012.

Green Lantern Movie Tie-In Heroclix Figures

[From heroclix.com]
Green Lantern Movie Figures - Green Lantern figs are on their way and will be distributed in a couple of flavors.  The hobby will get a GL movie 6 pack with maps, dice, and figures (think Fast Forces).  We’re also putting out a gravity feed unit with 24 single figure boosters in broader markets.   We’ll add these to the preview schedule once GSX has released.  This is a micro set in that there are <15 figures in the set.   BTW – All new sculpts on these guys!

Rarities From The Apocalypse

With Gamma World on everyone's mind I've been thinking a lot about PA (Post Apocalyptic) films. While I can't think of any that capture the frenetic and unpredictable nature of Gamma World there are many that capture the desperation and strangeness of the post-apocalyptic world.

After the jump you'll find the entirety of Chris Marker's sublime "cine-roman" experimental film La jetée which was the inspiration for Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys.

Also, you'll find the trailer from Luc Besson's first film, a largely dialogue-less PA film called Le dernier combat.

Maybe you can draw some inspiration from these for your own PA gaming experience. Whatever the case, they're worth seeing. (Mike)

Simon Pegg in Burke & Hare

We're all Simon Pegg fans at The Launchpad so naturally we're excited about the trailer for John Landis' Burke & Hare. A grim subject that's been dramatized before but this looks to a unique take on the story.

Free Movie Watch

If you have Comcast there's two notable movies available for free On Demand right now.

The first is The Cottage starring Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen, Psychoville) and Andy Serkis (y'know Gollum). The UK trailer's here.

The other is [REC], the original Spanish horror film that was adapted domestically as Quarantine. [REC] is superior (imho) and has spawned a sequel in Spain with more in the works. (I'm a Balaguero fan and suggest you track down Los sin nombre, Darkness, Fragile, and To Let as well.) (Mike)
