Welcome to another installment of Monday Telemetry, a weekly blog from The Launchpad that covers some of the more interesting releases or events that are coming to the store this week.

ITEM! We've got the next eight weeks of Heroclix tourneys figured out, stop on by the shop for a copy of the schedule!

BATMAN BEYOND #2
A mysterious new threat targets the original Batman's villains, and only Terry McGinnis - the Batman of the future - has a chance of finding and stopping him. But of a Catwoman stalks into the picture, Terry is torn between the lady she appears to be and the deadly tiger she might turn out to be!

LADY DEADPOOL #1
From the stunning sadism that brought you an entire brood of Deadpool droogs comes the chromosomal clusterhiccup that is Lady Deadpool.  Agile, armed, and a howling she-lunatic, this recluse is robbed of the only thing she adores more than binge eating: cable TV.  In an America ravaged by colossal debt and careening unemployment, the loss of the glowing idiot box is more than this girl can take.  Why won't the government do anything?  How is General America complicit?  Was the genocide of all  sitcom writers necessary?  Should Wanda  ransack the loins of a hot activist? Probably. 'Cause this Merc with a Mouth packs lipgloss. And it's sticky.

SCOTT PILGRIM V06 FINEST HOUR
It's finally here... Six years and almost one thousand pages have all led to this epic finale! With six of Ramona's seven evil exes dispatched, it should be time for Scott Pilgrim to face Gideon Graves, the biggest and baddest of her former beaus. But didn't Ramona take off at the end of Book 5? Shouldn't that let Scott off the hook? Maybe it should, maybe it shouldn't, but one thing is for certain - all of this has been building to Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour!

TIME MASTERS VANISHING POINT #1
The Search for Batman starts here! Vanishing Point - where time ends - is tearing itself apart, and one of the keys to keeping reality from being torn asunder is finding exactly where Bruce Wayne is in the time stream! Rip Hunter puts together a high-powered band of Time Masters to travel throughout history in search of the World's Greatest Detective, but can even the combined might and skill of Superman, Green Lantern and Booster Gold help the Time Master pinpoint where Batman went at the end of FINAL CRISIS?
DCU fans won't want to miss this 6-issue companion series to BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE!

MONDAY TELEMETRY For July 12th, 2010

Welcome to another installment of Monday Telemetry, a weekly blog from The Launchpad that covers some of the more interesting releases or events that are coming to the store this week.

BATMAN #701
This should solve some of the confusion between Bruce Wayne's ambiguous "death" in RIP and his showdown with Darkseid from Final Crisis.

Grant Morrison and Tony Daniel re-team to tell the exciting 2-part, untold tale of Bruce Wayne and his adventures between BATMAN R.I.P. and FINAL CRISIS! What happened to Batman - and Dr. Hurt, for that matter - after the devastating events at the climax of R.I.P.? And what secrets within this story point toward THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE?

PREDATORS PRESERVE THE GAME (ONE-SHOT)
No doubt will contain Predators spoilers!

Set a few weeks after the climax of Robert Rodriguez's Predators film, the remaining survivors still struggle to find some existence on the alien planet where they are hunted. Hope of outlasting the alien hunters still lives; they have a plan to get away, and they just might be able to pull it off!

SWEETS #1 (OF 5)
A spree killer terrorizes New Orleans days before Hurricane Katrina   makes landfall. Detective Curt Delatte just buried his only daughter, he's in no condition to work. But when the bodies pile up, he masks  his grief and joins the hunt through the bowels of the Big Easy. It won't be long until his city, and his evidence, gets washed away.

X-MEN ORIGINS: DEADPOOL #1
Sounds like Interview With A Deadpool, should be great!

You may have heard there's a Deadpool movie in the works.  Anyway, Wade Wilson's heard the same thing - and he's determined to tell his own story before Hollywood screws it up. Deadpool even hires his own screenwriter, who manages to get the Merc With a Mouth to open up like never before-revealing not only his origin story, but shocking details you've never heard before. We're talking Oscar™ -worthy stuff here, people. That is, unless Hollywood manages to screw it up anyway...

REVIEW: X-Men #1

We open with a fantastic Adi Granov cover depicting some of the key X-Men from past and present arrayed against a foreboding sky. And there are indeed storm clouds on the horizon for the X-Men. The recap in the beginning summarizes some of the recent problems to beset mutantkind and implies that things may be looking up. (Love the retro logo).

It isn't long before a beautiful summer day in San Fransisco is marred by a suicide bomber. But this is no ordinary bomb, the bomber is the bomb, a vampire who when exposed to the sun explodes in a bloody mess. This leaves numerous people including one of the X-Men's own covered in infected blood.

This is a pretty good first issue, depicting the opening salvo in the war that will unfold under Marvel's Curse of the Mutants banner. Paco Medina's (you may remember him from early issue of the current Deadpool series) art is excellent and serves the story and the action well. Victor Gischler's script is solid but his lack of experience with these characters shows now and again with some dialogue that doesn't quite fit. The only other complaint I have about it is the lack of "catch-up" exposition that would serve to introduce a new reader to the current cast of X-Men. They could of at least used those name and summary captions that were put to such good use in the recent Avengers titles.

Overall this is a solid first issue and it looks like the Curse of the Mutants is going to be good, bloody fun.

Old Man Logan to return next year

From Bleeding Cool via Millarworld.
You know that Old Man Logan sequel I’ve had in my head since last year? The one I was swearing I was going to write? Well, I was flying home from a wee break last night and I mapped out about half of it. Very excited about it and would love to get going on it towards the end of the year.

Chris Evans on the Cap costume

From Empire:
"It’s an amazing costume. Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it’s tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top – and given the fact that the movie takes place in the ‘40s and ‘50s – they’ve done a really good job of making it look really cool."

Marvel Universe vs The Punisher

Here's some preview art and an interview with Jonathan Maberry from CBR for the upcoming Marvel Universe vs The Punisher mini-series. Issue #1 debuts on August 4th.

Sounds like it stands at the crossroads of Old Man Logan and Marvel Zombies which sounds good to me.

The wait is over. Sony Pictures has finally announced, via its Twitter feed (@sonypictures), that American actor Andrew Garfield will take over for Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in the rebooted Spider-Man  movie due out on July 3rd 2012.
