WizKids has released more images of and details about its Galactic Guardians HeroClix release, which is currently slated for early April 2012 (see "Galactic Guardians HeroClix"). This expansion for the Marvel HeroClix game includes over 40 new figures that will be available in four different booster formats: standard five-figure boosters, as well as in a ten-figure single booster release, a six-figure Fast Forces Pack, and new Super Boosters, which each contain one of six new colossal figures.

The scale of the colossal figures is quite remarkable. Figures of the size of Galactus and Master Mold have traditionally been reserved for Con giveaways and special promotions—now for the first time WizKids is putting these massive figures in easy-to-acquire Super Booster packs that will available from all retailers who carry the HeroClix product line.

"Cosmic powers" are the focus of the next Marvel HeroClix expansion from WizKids. Called Galactic Guardians, this expansion includes some of the most powerful beings in the Marvel comics universe, including the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, and Galactus. More than 45 new sculpts will be included.

This expansion will be available in four different booster formats:

Standard five-figure Booster boxes, with a random assortment from the collection of 45 new figures.

Galactic Guardians Bricks will also include over-sized single-figure Super Boosters—each with one of six different colossal figures, including Galactus and Master Mold.

Annihilators Fast Forces Packs with six figures from the full collection, but with different dial designs not available elsewhere. Fast Forces Packs also include 2 maps and custom dice.

Galactic Guardians Single-Figure Boosters offer sculpts from the full set with different dials unique to this format.

Booster boxes will be packaged as a combination “booster brick,” including eight standard boosters and one super booster. This is similar to the format used for the Giant-Size X-Men expansion.

Galactic Guardians will also include a special “marquee figure,” which replaces the former “Buy it By the Brick” promo figures. The marquee figure for this set will be Super Nova. An Organized Play Kit will also be available for retailers to provide support for in-store events.

New images of Bane and Batman as they appear in The Dark Knight Rises have been revealed as covers of the upcoming issue of Empire magazine. Images from the set have been appearing over recent months (see, for example, “Catwoman Costume Revealed,” with more photo links in that article), but this is the first close-up look at Bane, and a close look at a portion of Batman. The film will be released on July 20, 2012.

Halo: Reach Series 5 - Individual Carded Figures

Carter (unhelmeted)
The Noble Team Spartans of Halo: Reach, unlike Master Chief, are seen both with their helmets and without. This new, alternate version of Noble One brings back Carter with his unhelmeted appearance. Figure includes the new Spartan Laser weapon and a Frag Grenade.

Brute Chieftain
The tribal Jiralhanae troops are led by their Chieftains – towering Brutes, easily recognized by their ornate armor and powerful weaponry. Our second Brute figure from Halo: Reach captures every detail of the new look of this fearsome enemy. Figure includes the new Gravity Hammer weapon and a Plasma Grenade.

Skirmisher Murmillo
The Covenant Skirmisher makes its return in Halo: Reach Series 5, in the upgraded form of the Murmillo rank. Murmillos feature orange armor and a protective facemask, but really stand out on the battlefield due to the small energy shields they wear on each forearm. Figure also includes a Plasma Pistol and a Plasma Grenade.

Elite Ranger
Jetpacks aren't only for multiplayer in Halo: Reach. While the UNSC has ODST Troopers with jetpacks, the Covenant have their own campaign character with aerial ability: the Elite Ranger. The Ranger rank and armor style features white armor with an enclosed helmet, integrated jetpack, and fully-sealed bodysuit for operations in the vacuum of space. Figure includes the all-new Focus Rifle weapon and a Plasma Grenade.

Spartan Gungnir custom (male) (olive/tan)
This heavily customized male Spartan features a top-of-the-line armor selection consisting of only the most expensive items available. From the Gungnir helmet with CBRN/HU/RS attachments to the Assault/Sapper chest with robotic arm, down to the Grenadier knee guards, this soldier spares no expense for protection and style. Figure features olive and tan armor, and includes the new Rocket Launcher weapon and a Frag Grenade.

HeroClix Infinity Gauntlet OP Event in 2012

Details are a bit vague at the moment, but more info will no doubt surface before the end of the year. Wizkids is doing a multi-release OP program over the next three Marvel sets.

As reported on HCRealms:

First, Infinity Gauntlet is not a set ... it is an Organized Play event that will arc over three Marvel sets in 2012 (Hulk, Galactic Guardians, Mighty Avengers; ~8 months). The Infinity Gauntlet Organized Play Kit will be available to stores in addition to the OP Kits that normally come with a sets' release (not as a replacement).

Once per month, your store will run an Infinity Gauntlet event that will reward an event winner, as well as participation prizes. The participation prizes over the course of the arc will be each of the gems, and well as the gauntlet itself (and no, the Infinity Gauntlet is not an Event Dial).

Although I was not told so; I have to assume that the figures will be the winner prizes. Stores should begin coordinating the event within their community to give people multiple opportunities to hop between stores and have a chance to get the winner prizes!

That is as much information I was able to get, but based on what I heard, it looks to be a great event that gets the players back into stores! I know I'm excited!

Paizo and Wizkids announce Pathfinder Battles miniature line

Paizo Publishing and WizKids Games announce Pathfinder Battles, a new ongoing prepainted miniatures brand to debut in December with Heroes & Monsters, a blind-packed, randomized set of 40 miniatures based on the smash-hit Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Additional sets will follow throughout 2012 and beyond, including a 60-figure Rise of the Runelords set scheduled for June 2012. These sets join the already announced Pathfinder Beginner Box Heroes pack of four high-quality nonrandom prepainted plastic miniatures, due in October 2011.

“Response to our initial Pathfinder Beginner Box Heroes set has been overwhelming,” said Lax Chandra, President of WizKids Games, "A full line of Pathfinder Battles miniatures will enable us to provide gamers with a huge variety of figures based on the award-winning imagery of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.”

“WizKids continues to blow us away with their sculpts for the Beginner Box Heroes and Heroes & Monsters sets,” said Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens. “Every day we’ve been getting amazing images from the WizKids sculptors, and we cannot wait until these figures hit gaming tables all around the world.”

Pathfinder Battles prepainted fantasy miniatures will be available at paizo.com and through WizKids distribution partners worldwide starting in December 2011.

Q: How will Pathfinder Battles fantasy miniatures be packaged?

A: Pathfinder Battles fantasy miniatures will be available in a variety of formats. The first release, Heroes & Monsters, will come in a “brick” of 19 blind standard booster packs, with 16 packs including one Medium or 2 Small figures, and 3 large packs featuring 1 Large monster each. Duplication of figures within a sealed brick has been held to a minimum, so purchasers should get no to very few duplicate figures in a brick (as with any randomized product, collation is not guaranteed). Buyers who purchase factory-sealed cases (4 bricks) should get a nearly complete set of figures.

Heroes & Monsters is scheduled for a December release. Future Pathfinder Battles sets, including June’s Rise of the Runelords, will use a multi-figure blind booster format. Additionally, WizKids plans to release additional Pathfinder Battles Encounter Packs, which will feature visible non-random assortments of selected repainted or resculpted figures from the full sets. Product details for these later sets will be released shortly.

Q: How often will Pathfinder Battles sets release?

A: The first set, Heroes & Monsters, will release in December 2011. The second set, Rise of the Runelords, will release in June 2012 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the very first Pathfinder Adventure Path. Additional Pathfinder Battles Encounter Packs will appear between these two large releases. More full sets and Encounter Packs will follow throughout 2012 and beyond.

Q: How many figures will be in each Pathfinder Battles release?

A: The first set, Heroes & Monsters, contains 40 miniatures. Retailers who order one case (four “bricks”) will have the opportunity to purchase the mighty Black Dragon, a special promotional miniature that towers over other figures in the set and sits on a 3-inch base. The Rise of the Runelords set, scheduled for a June 2012 release, contains 60 figures in the standard set, with promotional figures to be announced in the future. Pathfinder Battles Encounter Packs generally will include 6 figures each.

Q: Will Pathfinder Battles fantasy miniatures be available as part of a Paizo subscription?

A: Pathfinder Battles fantasy miniatures are produced by WizKids under license from Paizo, and are not currently part of any Paizo subscription. That said, Paizo understands that many of its customers would appreciate a way to subscribe to these miniatures, and is currently exploring options to offer a subscription or similar service.

Q: How does this affect the Pathfinder Miniatures line from Reaper Miniatures?

A: Reaper Miniatures has been producing unpainted metal Pathfinder Miniatures since Fall 2009, and they will continue to do so. Paizo is committed to producing the finest-quality miniatures for gamers of all tastes, whether they prefer prepainted plastic or unpainted metal.

You've probably all heard about the big DC relaunch by now. Here's a recap of last week's news about some of the fifty-two new #1 titles that will be part of the relaunch.

Amid the change ahead for the heroes that make up DC Comics' universe, Green Lantern's ring will burn bright and emerald, the character's adventures guided by a familiar face.

Geoff Johns, the company's chief creative officer, will write the upcoming relaunch of "Green Lantern," part of a DC-wide effort that will see 52 new first issues enveloping all of its heroes from Superman to the Justice League to Hawkman, but he's promising a different take and tone for the long-time character.

"It's building off the Green Lantern stories I've done since 'Rebirth,'" he told The Associated Press about the series, which is set to start in September and features art by Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy. "Taking it in a very new direction that we've never seen in 'Green Lantern' before."

"Green Lantern" isn't the only title planned, either. DC is also going to launch three other Green Lantern-related books, too, including "Green Lantern: The New Guardians," written by Tony Bedard and illustrated by Tyler Kirkham and Batt. That will feature Kyle Rayner leading the team. There will also be the "Red Lanterns," featuring Atrocitus and his fellow Red Lantern Corps members facing off against injustice and serving as judge, jury and executioners. The book is being written by Peter Milligan with art by Ed Benes and Rob Hunter.

A third book will also launch, too, "Green Lantern Corps." DC says that title, written by Peter J. Tomasi and illustrated by Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna, will see familiar Green Lanterns Guy Gardner and John Stewart as part of an elite strike force aimed at keeping the peace.
What role Hal Jordan will play in all of this, Johns won't say, but the longtime Green Lantern of Sector 2814 will be part of the new Justice League series that kicks of the DC-wide relaunch.
Johns kept details of his writing for the new series close to the vest, but said that if "I didn't think I had a great idea for Green Lantern, I wouldn't have relaunched the book. I would move on if I didn't think I had a great plan for it."

As for what will happen, Johns said he would strive to make the new series fresh but mindful of its historic roots to longtime fans and new readers, too, and stay true to the spirit of the Green Lantern Corps and its emotional content.

Some hints may come in the final issue of the current series, No. 57, which is due out later this month.

"'Green Lantern' 1 picks up a few months later in a very different space than we are now," Johns said. "When you see the cover you'll know exactly what I'm talking about."

DC Comics announced the creative teams for ten of its new #1 titles that will spin out from the pages of Justice League #1 by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, which was announced on Tuesday (see “DC Renumbering All Titles” and “DC Revising Characters in Reboot”). Writer Brian Azzarello (The Joker, 100 Bullets) will team with Cliff Chiang (Neil Young’s Greendale) for Wonder Woman #1, which will feature a cover by Chiang.

Geoff Johns, who is writing the all-important Justice League #1, will reunite with his Green Lantern and Brightest Day collaborator Ivan Reis to create a new take on DC’s sea-going superhero in Aquaman #1, which will feature a cover by Reis and Joe Prado.

Francis Manapul, who created the art for the recent Geoff Johns run on The Flash, makes his writing debut on The Flash #1 where he will share both scripting and art chores with Brian Bucellato. Manapul and Bucellato also collaborate on the cover to The Flash #1.

Writers Ethan Van Scriver and Gail Simone are teaming up with artist Yildiray Cinar on the Fury of Firestorm #1, which will present a major new take on the character of Nuclear Man. Van Scriver also provides the striking cover to issue #1.

Tony Daniel (Batman) will work with artist Philip Tan (Green Lantern: Agent Orange) on The Savage Hawkman #1. In order to forestall an alien plague Carter Hall must don his cowl and wings to become the new Savage Hawkman in this action-packed tale. Tan provides the cover to #1 as well as the interior art.

JT Krul (Teen Titans) is writing the new adventures of the Green Arrow with Dan Jurgens providing the interior art and Brett Booth is providing the cover to the new Green Arrow #1.

Dan Jurgens is also a talented writer and he gets a chance to display his writing chops with an international team of squabbling superheroes in Justice League International #1. Aaron Lopresti will provide both the interior art and the cover to issue #1.

Eric Wallace (Titans) is penning the adventures of the world’s third smartest man in Mister Terrific #1, with Roger Robinson doing the penciling and J.G. Jones providing the cover.

XBLA Batman Game?

Back in February, there was a rumor going around, based on a few listings at UK retailers, that Warner Brothers was working on a Batman game specifically made for Xbox Live Arcade. At the time, the rumored title was "Gotham City Impostors," but with little more than that the story sounded as believable as Jason Todd coming back to life.

But now, Superannuation has unearthed registrations by Warner Brothers for the BatmanImpostors.com web domain, as well as BatmanRedHoods.com and BatmanHushGame.com. Now, the story seems about as likely as ... Jason Todd coming back to life.

Of course, this doesn't confirm an XBLA game -- Warner Brothers could just be registering these in advance of the Batman: Arkham City release, or picking them up for some unrelated reason. Impostors, as it is spelled, is a storyline from Detective Comics last year, while Hush is a well-known Batman villian. Keep your Detective Vision turned on, folks.

Overseen by Executive Producer David E. Kelley, Wonder Woman's new outfit retains much more of its classic iconography than many suspected. Indeed, the costume worn by Palicki resembles the classic "swimsuit"-style costume seen in decades of comic books and in the previous Wonder Woman television series starring Lynda Carter than it does the recent redesign by DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee. Most impressively, the costume conveys a sense of majesty or drama that is inherent to the princess of Themyscira, although perhaps some of the nightclubby details leave something to be desired.

ICv2 has learned the nature of the next two HeroClix releases after the Green Lantern set is released in May (see “Green Lantern HeroClix”). Captain America HeroClix will be released on June 15, more than a month before the July 22nd debut of the Captain America: The First Avenger movie. Then in September WizKids is releasing a Superman set of DC HeroClix figures.

The Green Lantern, Captain America, and Superman HeroClix releases come on the heels of the upcoming Giant Size X-Men set (see "WizKids Has OP for 'GSX'"), which has a bigger sell-in than any other HeroClix release since 2007. Look for details and pictures of the Captain America and Superman HeroClix releases to appear here over the coming weeks.

01-25-2011: It's time to start an official Street Fighter HeroClix page here on HeroClix World. While we don't have anything directly from Wizkids yet, we do have a very reliable first-hand sighting.

A friend of mine went to the Clix-a-thon last week and was thrilled to see a slide show showcasing the new Street Fighter HeroClix! Here's what he had to report...

•There are 24 figures
•The sculpts are absolutely "gorgeous"
•Akuma's sculpt has shadow trails!
•Figures to be sold in indivdual blind boosters, $2.99 per booster, 1 figure per booster.
•Purchasing a case should almost guarantee a full set (or be extremely close)
•There is a Ryu and "Evil Ryu"... different sculpts.
•All figures are in an iconic action pose.

Oh, and we do know that Street Fighter HeroClix is fully compatible with current superhero HeroClix (as Wizkids has already mentioned).

This sounds like the single-figure boosters that will be available for Green Lantern. We can probably assume those will be at this $2.99 price point.
